Meet The Owners!

Glenn Miller, Danette Miller

Glenn and Danette Miller are originally from Los Angeles, CA where they started working in the building material business in 1970 and 1976 respectively. They both learned from the bottom up in the drywall and plastering products manufacturing and distribution business.

As they grew up in this industry and honed their business skills, the Millers made the move to Arizona in 1980, where they were both promoted to the point that led them to go into business with a partner and start their first lumber company in 1983. After 10 years, with 20 combined years of hard work under their belt, it was time to start a company that they could call their own. In July of 1993 Miller Wholesale Lumber Company opened its doors.

Today Miller Wholesale Lumber Company is highly recognized as one of the best privately held lumber and building materials companies in the metro Phoenix market. Miller Wholesale Lumber Company is a company full of integrity, honesty and success. Miller Wholesale Lumber Company serves its customers needs with statewide delivery throughout the southwestern USA region.

Glenn and Danette are also tremendous community supporters with their extensive work over the years contributing to Habitat for Humanity, Phoenix Polar Bears, Eagle Boy Scout projects, along with various other worthy endeavors in the community.

Glenn and Danette are very active owners and managers of Miller Wholesale Lumber Company, they invite you to stop in and speak with them at anytime.

In Memory of Rick Cornell

Rick Cornell - 1978-2024

Rick Cornell (88437) passed away unexpectedly Sunday December 22nd, 2024 while surrounded by loved ones.   Born November 22nd, 1952, Rick started his career out as a carpenter, moved into sales at Emmer Brothers in 1978, and joined the local Twin City #12 in 1980.

Eventually finding his way over to Canton Lumber, Rick would go on to be named sales manager and was placed in charge of purchasing redwood and pine.  For nearly two decades he was a stalwart of the local wholesale industry and used to boast that he believed he sold the first wholesale truckload of composite decking in the Midwest.

While at Canton, aware that the lumber industry is often portrayed by the media as reckless destroyers of the environment, Rick developed an educational program that he put on for local grade schools teaching young students that we all have a vested interest in the future of our forests, and championing lumber as a renewable resource.

Beginning in 2000, after raising an adored family whose summer vacations were often spent visiting sawmills out west, Rick would spend a decade as director of purchasing for Rainbow Play Systems in Brookings, SD.

Joined in the industry by his son in the mid-2000’s Rick relished the opportunity to pass on his hard-earned knowledge, and the pair enjoyed battling it out for the trophy at the annual Hoo-Hoo golf outings.  Frequently in Northern California checking out Redwood, the two occasionally dropped in on the Humboldt club #63 in Eureka as well.

An avid golfer and in search of a warmer climate, Rick and his beloved wife Robin, “the Bird” as he affectionately referred to her as, eventually made their way down to Arizona where Rick would go on to join the Miller Wholesale Lumber team in Tempe.

Rick’s career saw him participate in nearly every avenue of the industry, and he cherished the relationships that it brought him.   He loved people, loved to laugh, and even more loved bringing joy to others.  He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will not be forgotten.  Rest in peace.

In Memory of Scott Gates

Scott "Gator" Gates

With great sadness we would like to address the passing of Gator.

Gator started at Miller Wholesale Lumber in 1994 a year after our opening. Over time he became part of our family and an integral part of Miller Wholesale. He was a Titan in the lumber industry for over 50 years and will be missed by everyone he connect with. During this time, he supported the Fraternal Order of the Forest Products Industry named the International Concatenated Order of Hoo-Hoo. A loving father, grandfather, brother and employee his booming voice and infectious laugh will be sorely missed here. We wish the best for his friends and family during these hard times.

We miss you Gator, rest in peace.
